Colonic
Hydrotherapy is a gentle cleansing treatment for the bowel, using warm
filtered water.
Modern day
diets leave the bowel sluggish, leading to constipation, bloating, colicky
discomfort, and irritation.
This leads
to a build up of debris and waste material in the bowel, which ideally
should be eliminated much more quickly. This build up of waste leads to an
increase in the re-absorption of toxic material into the body, with an
increased burden upon the body’s detoxification pathways involving the
liver, lymph and kidneys.
This
increased burden leaves the body at higher risk of developing illness and
ill-health as a result of poor immunity, impaired processing of toxins and
decreased elimination of waste material.
Who Should Have Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Colonic
Hydrotherapy is available to most people, and many would benefit from the
treatment.
The
treatment is particularly valuable and useful to those suffering from the
following conditions. This is not an exhaustive list, and Colonic
Hydrotherapy may benefit those with other conditions not listed, and you are
advised to seek advice from a practitioner prior to treatment, who can
advise you on the effectiveness in your particular case.
The
conditions include:
- Asthma,
bronchitis or any breathing difficulty, including also hay fever, sinus
problems, allergies.
- Skin
conditions, including eczema or psoriasis amongst others.
-
Digestive conditions such as Irritable Bowel, or even Inflammatory Bowel
Disease, Diverticular Disease, and others. There is evidence to show
that regular Colonic treatments lower the risk of bowel cancer.
- Chronic
Fatigue, tiredness or other chronic debilitating condition.
-
Migraines and other types of headaches.
-
Arthritis, including rheumatoid and other inflammatory joint conditions.
-
Inflammatory conditions, including auto-immune conditions.
How Is It Done?
Colonic
Hydrotherapy is a gentle treatment during which purified warm water is
introduced into the rectum with a special speculum. Each treatment session
last around 45 - 60 minutes.
At Better
Health we advocate the use of advanced Colonic Hydrotherapy Units that give
greater control over the process than the relatively out-dated gravity feed
method of treatment. Modern units allow close control of water temperature
and pressure together with advanced safety features that are lacking in
gravity feed methods.
Once the
speculum is inserted into the rectum and connected to the Unit warm water
will flow gently into the rectum and will flow further into the colon, or
large intestine. As the water is released it flows out, providing a gentle
cleansing effect upon the bowel wall.
All you
have to do is lie comfortably on the couch, and you will feel a warm
comfortable sensation in the abdomen. As the water enters the bowel, you
will begin to feel ‘full’ and as the water is released you will feel a
sensation of release, and at the end of the session you will feel cleansed
and ‘lighter’ than before your treatment. People describe this as not just
feeling lighter in weight, but in a lifting of their mood also.
Many do
actually lose a little weight during the treatment, as many pounds of waste
material may be accumulated in the bowel.
How Effective is the Treatment?
The
treatment is extremely effective in cleansing the bowel. It leaves you
feeling lighter, brighter, and cleansed.
In terms
of relieving any symptoms, the effect will vary from person to person, but
you should expect to follow a course of treatment for any prolonged benefit
to emerge.
A course
of treatment – which usually is carried out weekly – will last for around 6
– 12 weeks, although it is usual to increase the interval between treatments
during this time.
In our
experience, we have seen certain conditions cleared completely within a 2 –
3 week period of Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments, although results will
normally take a little longer than this.
Specific
advice regarding the expected duration of treatment and the likely results
will be discussed with your practitioner during your treatment session.
Are There Any Adverse Effects?
Some
people do react to the treatment, particularly if their general condition is
associated with the build up of toxins in the body.
As the
Colonic Hydrotherapy moves waste material, a detoxification reaction may be
promoted, and this is part of the healing process. However, if the body
is not ready or able to process those toxins, then side-effects may occur.
This may include headaches, general aches or many others.
These
effects may be avoided by the use of products – herbal or nutritional – to
help the detoxification process. These include products such as J51, Milk
Thistle, or others, and further advice will be given by your practitioner.
In
long-standing, chronic ill-health, then we may advise health screening –
using the BEST system – prior to starting a treatment programme.
